Kate doing her own grocery

Photo from here.
Kate is still down to earth!

The Duchess of Cambridge, despite the title, still does her own grocery shopping wearing common clothes--jeans, sweater and ballet flats. I am just so proud of her... no royal air, just the plain and "commoner" Kate that we fell in love with.

Kate's Wedding Day Dresses

Yesterday, the world came to a stop to witness the wedding of the century--Prince William and Kate's. Aside from making world history, the couple, particularly the Duchess of Cambridge, made fashion history with Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.

The Duchess wore two dresses of equal sophistication from UK's most celebrated fashion house. For the wedding ceremony, the bride wore an intricately embroidered ivory and white satin gazar floor length dress with long lace sleeves and 8-foot train. During the party, she wore another white floor length gown with diamante embroidered belt and white angora bolero cardigan.

My verdict... stunning! She's looks every inch a princess in those gowns. Great job, Sarah!

The New Wonder Woman

Adrianne Palicki is the new Wonder Woman. What do you think of her more conservative costume? Oh, wait! This isn't the costume she's been using since she started shooting NBC's new TV series.

Fashion Dissection: Another Smurfs Look

Hayden Panettiere tried the Smurfs look and she failed miserably. Time to look for another stylist. Sorry, Hayden but there's a better Smurfette... and she lend Smurfette her voice.

It is Hard To Be A Model: Catwalk and liquor don't go well together.

I have to show this to you. Catwalk and liquor are a bad combination. This is just a show but it proves again that it really is hard to be a model... I wonder how much the two girls got after the show?

Sparkling Tattoos

If there is one thing that I will never do, it is having a tattoo.  I don't like needles puncturing my skin to inject ink. Just thinking about it already hurts. If you have the same thinking as I am about tattoos, an alternative is this Marbella crystal adhesive tattoo.  It sparkles and it is removable.

Like it?  It is available at Luisa Via Roma for $60.  Other designs are available.

My Net-A-Porter Christmas Wishlist

You will never have a hard time buying gifts for me because I don't look at the brand and price tag of the gifts I am receiving.  Don't you just wish everyone would be like me?  Haha!  Of course, not every one is like me.  If you have a girlfriend, a sister or a mom to buy a gift who is brand conscious and you don't want to spend a fortune for gifts, I have here my Net-A-Porter Christmas Wishlist that might help you in your gift buying dilemma.

Alexander Wang 'Tasha' bandage leather boots, $380 previously $760. This is a super deal!

Marc by Marc Jacobs 'Hexi' hoop earrings, $29.40 previously $42.

Justin Bieber Nail Polish???

Seriously?

I wouldn't mind Taylor Swift or Miley Cyrus launching nail polishes, they're girls who normally color their nails in pink or black... but, Justin Bieber?  WTF?!

My niece will be shocked and she'd probably be the first one to buy her very own.  She's such a Bieber fan that she cried about the ONN news that Justin Bieber is actually a 51-year old pedophile.  Haha!

What's Bieber trying to prove?

Justin Bieber hair gel sounds more appropriate to me than Justin Bieber nail polish.  Do you think he has glittered nail polish, too?  OMG!  I want him to personally put it on my nails.

It Is Hard To Be A Model Part 2

This model is really professional and I applaud her for that.  If I were to wear that box coat by Maison Martin Margiela, I swear I will never make it to the end of the runway without laughing or perhaps I couldn't even make it out of the runway at all to model that really weird coat/box.  I bet no one would want to be caught dead wearing this coat, not even at home.

This is proof again that it is really hard to be a model.

Ladies and Gentlemen: The Penis Pants

Honestly, would you wear these pants?

Photo from here.

Who would want to see pants with uncircumcised penis?  Thank goodness for that headpiece, the model's face is a bit hidden.  I told you, it is really hard to be a model.  I showed this photo to my friends and they all had the same reaction as mine--they all cried laughing.  And they all started to make really wild stories about these pants.

I was thinking, maybe Isabel Mastache wants the world to know that men have this protruding thing on their body called penis and that they need to be recognized in the world of fashion.

She surely made her mark in the avant-garde division. B-R-A-V-O!

It Is Hard To Be A Model

When I was a kid, I used to dream of becoming a model because they always look so glamorous in glossy magazines and they get to wear the most expensive clothes.  That's what I believed until I grow up and learned that being a model is not at all that easy.

Photo from here.

Designers, companies and agencies pay their price if they make everything believable to the consumer's eyes.  Models make us believe that what they are wearing are the latest and most chic clothing in town.  When you see a model wearing something like the one above, you will just realize that being a model is one of the hardest jobs.  I don't think that this model is happy and proud with what she's wearing... but who is she to complain, she's being be paid to make believable the unbelievable, to make the ugliest the most beautiful.

Cute Ballet Flats

I am trying to stay away from high heeled shoes because of severe backache and my plantar fasciitis so I am looking for cute flats as alternative footwear.  I have found these Christian Siriano 'Royalty' ballet flats that are so cute and I am already thinking of wearing this with leggings and tunic--a la Audrey Hepburn. You can buy these at Payless for $34.99.

Bandage Dresses

I could not exactly remember when was the first time I saw or heard about bandage dresses... about a year ago, maybe.  Whoever wore it first really made a fad.  Of course, the designer behind the body-con is Herve Leger.  A lot of Hollywood stars like Blake Lively (on the photo), Mariah Carey, Kim Kardashian (of course, she probably made it even more famous), Rihanna, Victoria Beckham, Lindsay Lohan and many others could not get enough of the ubersexy dress.  Men, too could not resist the its allure, in fact, in one survey conducted by Mycelebrityfashion.co.uk, 57% of respondents said that the body-con is the most promiscuous clothing item followed by crop tops (53%) and corsets (51%).  Surprisingly, only 43% agree that underwear worn as outerwear is suggesting promiscuity.

And, 24% of the respondents said that they wouldn't allow their girlfriend or wife to go out wearing something they disapprove.  Well, let's see about that.

Men really think differently.  Let them lose their marbles.

Read more about the contents of the survey right here.

No Shoes

I went to two shopping malls the other day to buy shoes but I went home empty handed.  I am really choosy when it comes to shoes--the heels should be the right height, not really elaborate, comfortable like it was really molded on the cruves of my feet and not too expensive.  I tried on several shoes but they do not have my size.  I was really sad when I went home.  I guess I will have to try my luck next week.  In the mean time, I will just have to suffice myself to looking at the most beautiful shoes in the web.

By the way, those turquiose maryjanes are from Anthropologie and it sells for $95.

Alexander McQueen: Tribute's End

This would be my last entry of shoes for the month of February and the end to my month's tribute to Alexander McQueen in my shoe blog.  I've been away in the blogosphere for quite a while and I want to make my comeback special and memorable by posting the most talked about shoe of the late Alexander McQueen... yes, the infamous "armadillo" shoes from his Paris Spring 2010 collection.

I personally don't like the shoe but on the runway, like what he usually does, it was a spectacular moment in fashion.  The armadillo shoe was first worn by Lady Gaga in her Bad Romance music video but it was Daphne Guiness who had the guts to wear it in an event.  We were all in astonishment when another fashion risk taker, Kelis, wore the same shoe during the 1st Annual Data Awards on January 28, a few weeks before McQueen claimed his own life.

The armadillo shoe and other McQueen runway OTTs, will forever remind us that fashion has no limits and every design is an acceptable form of art where millions of neurons were put to the ultimate test to put the pieces together.  Just like a family who has lost its member, the fashion industry has lost a great artist, but the as old adage goes, the show must go on.

He will be remembered for as long as the world knows fashion.

Dissecting Annalynne McCord

Do you know how old is she?  Judging from this picture, she looks 30.  After verification, she's only 22, she was born on July 16, 1987.
The 90210 star clearly doesn't want to dress her age.  Yes, yes, yes.  She's of age, but the cleavage and too much legs made her look trashy and trying too hard.  The ruffled hemline and hoop earrings also didn't do well with the whole look.  In all aspects, 77% voted in People Magazine that this is a miss.

Do not try to convince me that she has a good fashion sense because I haven't seen in her in the many lists of best dressed in Hollywood.  Do not also try to defend that most stars in the list has established career and already earned a million... many starlets in the biz has a good sense of style sans a stylist, take for example  Selena Gomez, Jessica Szhor, Leighton Meester and many others.  She has a nice figure, really gorgeous hair and a beautiful face... and I bet by this time she has already earned enough to hire a stylist.

Can somebody offer her a make-under???

Alexander McQueen

I was watching the early news today and I was shocked when the anchor announced Alexander McQueen was found dead in his house. The cause of his death is still unknown but there are speculations that he committed suicide because of depression brought about by his mother's death.

Image from Harper's Bazaar.

I chose Alexander McQueen's red, devilish hot boots as the maiden entry of this blog.  He is a brilliant designer--outrageous and brilliant are the exact words to explain his pieces.   He is at the pinnacle of his success but unfortunately his career has to end soon.  Anna Wintour considered him as one of the greatest designers of his generation--I agree.  McQueen's runway shows were always a production, an entertainment in itself, and once again-even for the last time, he never disappointed his guests during his 2010 collection.  It is no wonder why celebrities and high society people go crazy about his designs.  He once dressed Madonna, Sandra Bullock, Kate Moss and the most recent was Lady Gaga wherein in she wore in her Bad Romance video his most outrageous shoe designs.
To pay tribute to Alexander McQueen, I will dedicate the whole month of February of my shoe blog to him.

Celebrity Red Carpet Gowns For Less

Awards nights are the chance for celebrities to show off their star status.  What they will wear in every awards night takes months of careful planning with a stylist.  Gowns from designers like Yves Saint Laurent, Armani, Naeem Khan, Gucci, Versace, Monique Lhuillier and other noted celebrity favorites are delivered and fitted to stars... and their price starts at $4,000.  If you would compute the worth of what a celebrity is wearing on the red carpet, you'd be blown away because most red carpet veterans like Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston's complete look costs more than $1 million.  Us mere mortals obviously could not afford to wear such extravagance but we have options.  E-dress Me offers celebrity inspired gowns at reasonable prices so that you can be a star without asking for world peace.

During the 2009 Oscars, Miley Cyrus' gown by Zuhair Murad costs thousands but the recreation by Terani Couture costs only $470.

Anne Hathaway was breathtaking in this Armani beaded gown she wore during the Oscars 2009 but you can get the same look for less by wearing this Terani Couture strapless pailette gown for only $498.

Beyonce at the 2009 Golden Globe was sparkling in this Elie Saab number but the same look may be achievable with the Terani Couture recreation for only $450.
